Frontrunner adventure

IT SNOWED! Again I guess, but this time was memorable because instead of just enjoying the snow from inside our cute and warm house, we decided to go on an adventure.

Cute, snowy house

I love icicles
Recently, a commuter train opened up that runs from Provo all the way to Ogden. Dallas recently took a full-time job (!!!!!!!!!!!!!)  in Draper, which is about 40 minutes from our house. Since we only have one car, him taking the train would make our(well, my) life much, much easier. On the free public opening day we decided to test out the possibility of Dallas riding his bike to the train station, riding up to Draper and then riding his bike to his office. We got to the station and this is what we saw.

We waited in line for an hour. It was FREEZING. I couldn't feel my toes when we finally got on the train.

Warm again!
After a mile long bike ride in the freezing snow, we made it! We decided that while it's possible, it's not very practical if it is snowing and wet outside. And, luckily, I got feeling back in my toes once we made it home.

Drat, we've got rats!

The first snow storm of the winter was an eventful one for us. I was trying to get over a 24-hour flu bug and Dallas was trying to deal with our hot water heater that decided to stop working. All of the sudden I saw something dart INTO OUR BEDROOM. I yelped a bit, and then screamed for Dallas. He then spent the next hour creating a trap to catch this mouse, involving a sheet of paper and a mason jar.
He was kind of cute in that jar...

I was super impressed. And then I was super sad because we had to get rid of (read "kill") the mouse. When Dallas brought the jar back in I wrote all over it with sharpie because I was NOT going to use that jar for anything else.

Jazz Game

So our ward is super awesome and for one of the Elder's Quorum activities we went to a Jazz game. We had a blast, even though I'm not so great at watching basketball games.

We were in the nosebleeds. It was great.
Additionally, my husband doesn't know how to make a normal face. This was our attempt at getting a cute "Hey-look-we're-on-a-date-at-a-Jazz-game" picture. Excuse the photo-explosion.

Almost...
This was the best one.

Pumpkin Face

One of the many things I love about Dallas is how creative he is. However, I didn't realize that this extended to pumpkin carving as well. We went up to Ogden to spend the evening with Dallas's brother Jordan and his wife. We went to a pumpkin patch and picked the perfect pumpkins for carving. When Dallas told me he planned to carve my face into a pumpkin I was a bit nervous. Coming from a family where the best pumpkins on our porch have simple triangle eyes and jagged mouths, you can see why I was skeptical.

I was pleasantly surprised.

He took a picture and then printed it out in black and white and high contrast. Then he used the picture as a template and poked through the picture to transfer the template onto the pumpkin. At this point, I got too busy carving my own pumpkin to see the transformation from pumpkin to masterpiece.

Look at that concentration

Here is the picture he used as a template and then the finished product all lit up. I think it looks exactly like me.

This my pumpkin. It is the most elaborate pumpkin I have ever carved. Ever. I was really proud of myself.

OUR House: Part II

Our house is old. Old as in, I'm fairly certain electricity didn't exist when it was built. With that age comes some "great" quirks. We love the all of the unique characteristics of our house, but some of those that have become favorites are:

1.  No electrical outlets in the bathroom
2.  No fan in the bathroom
3.  Two electrical outlets 3 inches away from each other in the living room (see Exhibit A)

Exhibit A

4.  A water heater that doesn't make it through the process of washing my hair without going cold

I may have used the term "favorite" loosely.

Buuuuut I have a great husband who has done the following things to make these quirks more bearable:

1. He found an adapter that screws into the light socket and has a plug, and then continued to staple a 7 foot extension cord to the wall so I could reach the plug (see Exhibit B)

Exhibit B

2. He bought matches. Almost works as well.
3.  ...Ok, this one doesn't actually bother me that much so nothing's been done about it.
4. He lets me shower first. Big brownie points there.

OUR House: Part I

Currently Dallas and I are renting a duplex. Here are the top 5 reasons we love it:

1. Our sweet land lady lives right next door and brings us fresh tomatoes every so often.
2. We have the CUTEST little family as neighbors; all their little kids are gingers and super friendly.
3. We have a backyard. And a front yard.
4. All the work that would normally go with #3 is done by our land lady
5. We live just down the street from Dallas's cousins, who let us eat their food when I'm too tired from clinical to make our own dinner who make really good food

Plus it's close enough that we can walk to campus, has a front porch, brand new appliances, a washer and dryer, and was repainted just before we moved in. AND we are getting a brand new toilet RIGHT NOW! Seriously, the maintenance man is installing the toilet as I sit here.

We love our little house, if you didn't notice from the Top 5 which became a Top 10. It's fine.

Once upon a time...

So once upon a time I married the man of my dreams.  Buuuut, I don't have those pictures yet, so these are the ones from our cruise to Mexico instead. We had a freaking blast on that ship, and in both Cabo and Puerto Vallarta. However, because we both fail at taking pictures, these are literally all of the pictures we took.

The highlight from dinners on the cruise had to be the Warm Melting Cake. Dallas had at least one every night, and told me I needed to find the recipe...

Elegant night

Our first port of call was Cabo San Lucas, and boy was it HOT! We took a teeny little "water taxi" out to a beautiful beach (conveniently named, Lover's Beach) and almost died on the way out there. Boats that small should not be allowed on the ocean.

Before I realized I was going to die

Pretending to be not terrified while we posed in front of the famous Arch in Cabo

Our second day in Cabo we took a mini cruise to another bay to go snorkeling. They had THE BEST tacos on that boat.

Famous Arch again, but with us(me) less terrified

Dallas jumping off of the side of the super tall boat. I didn't jump.

The next day we sailed down to Puerto Vallarta. Highlight here definitely has to be the matching Aztec calendar rings we got...which of course we didn't take pictures of.

The nasty beach in PV. It made me miss Cabo

Tourists.
Our cruise was literally perfect.
